'Global warming? It's brass monkeys out there!'

...or statements of that ilk. Should you hear this sentiment uttered in your vicinity, please ignore it. Under no circumstances engage the simpleton with a tract centering on any of the following:
- that the warming part is taken to refer to a global annual average
- what a long-term trend is and how there will be annual deviations
- that having the coldest March for 50 years is no indicator of any change in itself as records will always be broken.
Lastly, avoid all mention of the words 'Gulf Stream', particularly in the context of a protracted scientific explanation of conveyor belt breakdowns and oceanic salinity. You will be wasting your own time as well as theirs. In the long-term, all we can do to shut up 'folk wisdom' in the event of unending winters like this one is agree to stop using the 'global warming' term altogether. Use 'climate change' when in the company of dunderheads instead. They may still not know the difference between climate and weather, but at least you'll be in the same ballpark. Sort of.
